Fractions without frustration
nteresting concept for teaching fractions without frustration! My 8 year old grand likes putting all the matching pieces together on the same pizza. We’ll working on more advanced concepts later, but this is a great way to teach that fractions aren't ‘scary’, but something you use a lot in life. Having actual pieces to hold and manipulate brings the concept of fractions into the real world instead of just numbers on a page. For example, if 4 pieces of pizza make one whole pizza , then each is 1/4. You can go on from there (see photo) to actually see that 2/8 make 1/4, which added together with the other 1/4 equals one half, etc. The wipe off worksheets for the dry erase pages help reinforce the concepts. The dry erase pen has an eraser or a tissue also works fine. It’s a nice set that folds up into about a 7 1/4 by 8 3/4 by 1/2 inch ‘book’ that could be stored on a bookshelf. It even includes a bag to put the magnetic pieces in, once you punch them out. The pieces can also be stored nicely inside the book. The colors are not as bright as shown on the description page but each shape is clearly labeled. The ‘chocolate’ pieces also include decimal and percentages, as in 1/2, 0.5 and 50%. Looks like a fun way to increase math skills.
